I’ve talked quite about my preference for bodyweight exercise. While I’ve incorporated weights and enjoy that portion of my workouts quite a bit, if I had to choose between one or the other, calisthenics is the thing I know I could do consistently for the rest of my life. It’s how I started, where I see the most benefit, and what I enjoy the most.
However, even then I use some equipment.
Here are five of the essentials that have helped me the most.
Dips are obviously a great way to work the chest, shoulders, and triceps. And yes, you can get the same results from using a chair or bench. But I don’t want a chair in my workout space, and I don’t want my workout space in the kitchen. Both provide too much temptation. The nice thing about the Lebert bars is the versatility. Not only can they be used for dips, but also horizontal rows to work the back (a sturdy dining room table works too, if you’re into that), or laid down they make for a good pushup stand.
