Well to be perfectly honest, it’s been a rather disappointing week. Hopefully this week’s odds and ends post doesn’t bring you down, and I’ll do my best to keep things positive.
Monday evening we had our penultimate CSA farm share pickup. On the drive into town I started getting a weird notification on the dash of our 2020 Escape, but it went away after a few miles and I wondered if it was just some setting I’d bumped. At the farm share I got sweet and red potatoes, multicolored carrots, the best green peppers, arugula (for which I’ve developed a taste), and the last delicata squash of the year.
Not a bad haul.
Tuesday was a beautiful day, so I went out to rake leafs. For something to listen to, I picked The Adventures of Tom Stranger, Interdimensional Insurance Agent by Larry Correia since it was free. I’m not the biggest Correia fan, but this is a blast. It’s red-blooded, libertarian, American Doctor Who. And I hate Doctor Who, so it doesn’t take much to improve it. I especially love the meta aspect, as it starts in an alternate reality where Adam Baldwin (though not named) is president because Firefly ran for multiple seasons.
The book is read by Adam Baldwin.
Wednesday is when things started going downhill. On my morning grocery run I got a more serious warning on the dash, so I called the dealership service center. Unfortunately, they can’t get it in until next week and discouraged any long trips. This Sunday I’d planned on making a long trip. Better safe than sorry, I suppose. But I can’t help but feel a little sorry for myself. My circumstances may not have improved any when I started watching Dracula Untold which is an entertaining diversion and a train wreck of a movie.
It took me three days to finish.
I started Thursday with my most difficult workout of the week. While doing bicep curls I tweaked my lower back, but I don’t seem to have suffered any sort of lasting injury. My mom really slept in, and since it’s my practice not to have my breakfast until she’s had hers, well, I only ate two meals yesterday. I’d planned on having a glorious pint of protein ice cream, and I did, but it wasn’t quite as nutrient dense as I’d intended. The machine’s motor burned out on the last respin, when it starting billowing smoke and spewing soot.
So much for mix-ins.
There’s supposed to be a failsafe if the thing starts working too hard, and I don’t think my mix was too dense, so I don’t know what happened. Right now, I’m more inclined to return it for a refund than replace it. Maybe the next generation of Creami will be superior. But needless to say, skipping meals like I have isn’t helping me put on weight.
I’m back to my summertime lean weight. Oops.
Lately I’ve been listening to and watching more livestream podcasts. I don’t get much conversation in my day-to-day, and being present for a live conversation is a good proxy. Sometimes I’ll throw in a couple bucks to have a comment read on air and get the thrill of participation, but for the most part I’m content eavesdropping. Most late afternoons you’ll find me listening to Pop Culture Crisis while doing dishes, fixing dinner, or playing video games.
Yes, video games. I can’t just watch, read, or listen to something all the time.
Anyway, if you’ve read this far, thanks for taking an interest in my life. Such as it is. Feel free to share my posts, as I still hope to build an audience here. And as always, using any of the Amazon links gives me a small kickback, which is much appreciated.
