This week I haven’t read or watched anything that I can review here at present, so I thought it might be fun to do a more informal, odds and ends post.
Last Friday morning we got our Ninja Creami Deluxe delivered. I’ve been a big fan of Ninja products for years now, though I think some of them are a little silly and overpriced, so I won’t be a Ninja completeist. I was initially on the fence about the Creami, but once I saw the YouTube review from Pro Home Cooks the potential became apparent. I haven’t played with it a whole lot yet and I’m still getting my recipes dialed in, but I have made some frozen treats that are much more texturally satisfying than a protein smoothie. Now if I could just get it to taste amazing. And, for all the people online saying the machine terribly loud, it practically whispers compared to my Ninja Smoothi.
More importantly, putting together ice cream bases is something Mom and I can do together.
My workout routine is changing some with the weather. Every morning I’m still in the basement doing calisthenics and lifting weights, so that hasn’t changed. But I don’t do as well with the cold as I did in my early 20’s, and thus I haven’t been out walking as much. What probably doesn’t help is that between April and August I got the leanest I’ve been in a couple years and so far my attempts to put on weight haven’t been terribly successful.
Maybe the Creami can help me with that too.
Last Sunday Shoot the Devil 2: Dark Matter went up for pre-sale. It’s a collection of short science fiction stories about heroes looking evil dead in the eye and blasting it back to hell. I’m privileged to have one of my stories amongst those of some really great authors. Mine is set in 1940’s Hollywood and features a private eye looking for a star, only to run into every conspiracy you can imagine. We’ve got Nazi madmen working for the government, UFOs, the Black Dahlia murder, and more. Because I’m a sap, there’s also a beautiful girl and a pesky cat.
Yes, my hero saves the cat.
What have I been reading? I’m glad you asked. Before bed I’ve returned to Nero Wolfe for some sanity in this crazy old world. These are stories I’ve read before, but the process and turns of phrase are still refreshing. Yesterday I also finished reading an unpublished novel that was an absolute delight. Hopefully the author puts it out there so I can write a full review and publically gush over it.
I recently watched a documentary on Hammer Studios, but you don’t want to hear about that.
However, Hulu started streaming Moonlighting, the Cybill Shepherd/Bruce Willis comedy drama which was popular when I was a toddler and then disappeared from syndication and home release. Two episodes in, and I can see why it was initially so beloved. Check it out if you get a chance.
And that, my friends, is all the personal news worth reporting. Thanks for reading.
