Now that more than half the year is behind us, perhaps now’s a good time to assess.
Since the first week of January I’ve lost about five and a half pounds. Now before you yell at me, saying that I was already too thin, it’s summer and I find being lean is more comfortable. Be assured, my BMI is well within a normal, healthy range. This is far from the leanest I’ve ever been and I didn’t have to do anything drastic. Mostly I’ve just taken advantage of nice days to walk more while eating a little less.
Once the scent of snow is in the air, I’m sure the weight will come back.
My diet has settled into a comfortable routine. After my morning workout I have four to six scrambled eggs, a glass of raw milk, and either homemade bread or rice cakes with honey. If there’s fresh fruit in the house (like blueberries) I’ll have a handfull of those too. It’s seriously my favorite meal. If I eat lunch, it’s a salad. Since my breakfast tends to be heavy on carbs and fat, I prefer lean proteins like fish or chicken breast. And dinner is pretty much whatever I want, and what I usually want is meat, potatoes, and a cooked vegetable.
Dessert is a protein shake with more berries, whey/casein protein, yogurt, and oatmeal if I need it.
Sometimes Mom and I go out for ice cream, and we recently rediscovered a restaurant I really like. My diet is sustainable because I never feel like I’m depriving myself. If I had a social life I suppose it might be more difficult, but even then I find that day-to-day consistency is more important than perfection. A little ice cream won’t kill me.
The daily workouts keep me sane.
