Twitter is a funny place. Recently I was chatting with a friend about the Burn Notice spinoff movie Burn Notice: The Fall of Sam Axe, and somehow we ended up talking about The Man Who Killed Don Quixote and Lost in La Mancha. Director Terry Gilliam had long wanted to make a Don Quixote movie and eventually he did, but first he failed.
Spectacularly.
Lost in La Mancha is a documentary film about that first attempt. I’d seen it once before, for a film class, but that was a long time ago and I wanted to revisit it. Apparently there isn’t much demand for this little gem, because it’s only been released on DVD and I won an eBay auction for it with a bid of $1.25. After watching it again yesterday, though, I think this is something I could watch at least once a year and still be entertained.
Sometimes you just like to see tragedy.
