We all want to know what we don’t know. Distrust of the media and the “System” is at an all time high and, unfortunately, many are finding that conspiracy theories are just sneak previews. With unlimited information and limited time, it’s important that we invest it wisely and going down too many conspiracy rabbit holes can be bad for your mental health.
Trust me.
If I was going to recommend one podcast to give a broad overview of all the crazy stuff out there, I’d say Conspiracy Pilled with PJ Williams and Abby Libby (available wherever you get your podcasts). Every week they shine a mostly-hinged light on something crazy. MKULTRA? Check. Pizzagate? Check. Turning the frogs gay? Check, check, check.
Is the moon landing a hoax? Check. And also, probably not.
What I appreciate is that while sometimes the topics require them to go to some dark places, the show itself doesn’t dwell in the darkness. Even shows with a Christian worldview like The Confessionals or Blurry Creatures have an aura best reserved for late nights and stormy days. Conspiracy Pilled isn’t doom and gloom, and won’t make you want to hide under your bed (or check for monsters before crawling into it).
The format is pretty straightforward. Every week Abby reports on a new conspiracy and PJ gives a running commentary. They both come in having done plenty of research, and you’re not apt to hear anything too nutty (eg: another show I recently discovered says planets aren’t real). Since the episodes are recorded live, there’s also an element of audience participation in the various group chats.
Full disclosure: I met PJ at BasedCon, and since we’re from the same area it’s surprising we hadn’t met sooner.
Something else I like is that PJ and Abby aren’t in the inner circle of other like-minded podcasters. All of the other hosts I listen to have each other on all the time and share guests. Conspiracy Pilled is a fresh perspective with different voices. The rabbithole needen’t be a circle. So if you’re looking to know more than you did, but in a way that won’t make you feel icky, with hosts that will make you laugh, give it a listen.
